Montreal – Bill Brownstein: Here’s why you should rethink cutting your cable

When monthly cable bills and other all inclusive other packages start to cost an arm and a leg, one has to wonder why banks don’t scrutinize it more in their assessments of no more than 33& monthly normal cost of living expenditures.

If you go back at least a good decade or 2 at the most, you would have been labelled a nutcase for spending so much on cable prices and packages.

Somehow SMARTPHONES PR business has made that illusion so attractive, it’s an I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT IT ANYMORE DOMINANT FEATURE OF LIFE.

TECH HAS PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE HERE. FACEBOOK, GOOGLE’S INSTANT GOD LIKE ANSWERS, ET AL… ARE ALL INTERESTED IN CAPTURING AUDIENCES AND RETAINING THEM ONLINE AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.

I FOR ONE HAVE MOSTLY DISCONNECTED FROM THE INSANITY OF HIGH CELLPHONE BILLS AND SEEING WHAT’S THAT LIKE. LIKE GARBAGE AND RECYCLING, IT DEMANDS EFFORT, PLANNING AND A REVISION TO HABITS THAT ENCOURAGES BEING CONSTANTLY PLUGGED IN. I’VE CUT CABLE OUT COMPLETELY AND DON’T MISS IT ONE LITTLE BIT. IT TAKES MORE TIME TO DECIDE WHAT TO WATCH WHILE SCROLLING THROUGH THE TV GUIDE MENU AND WHETHER IT’S GOING TO BE A CHANNEL ON THE EAST COAST OR THE WEST COAST OR NORTH/SOUTH POLE. MUCH EASIER TO JUST STREAM IT FROM THE NET AND BE DONE WITH IT. I GET WHAT I WANT AND DON’T WASTE HOUR AFTER HOUR SEARCHING UNTIL I HIT COUCH POTATO HEAVEN WHILE SIPPING A BEER AND MUNCHING ON A SNACK.
