A ban would be a death sentence for many of these types of horses.
A better solution would be for someone to come up with a better horseshoeing method. Instead of using steel/iron to use something like tires or rubber when on asphalt or concrete.
Laws requiring regular inspection and maintenance of living animals, such as these.
And definitely some way for them to rest in a laying down position.
‘WHY’ – because about 1 month ago while visiting Montreal, 1 such horse was shifting it’s weight from rear leg to rear leg to help support it’s weight and tired legs on hard asphalt.
If things are done right, everyone wins. USE YOUR BRAINS ! ONCE ZOOS HAD THE SAME PURPOSE – PRESERVATION AND TRYING TO HELP ANIMALS. HOWEVER, OVER TIME… THINGS HAVE WORSENED IN SOME CASES. DON’T REPEAT, AND REVIEW THE RULES AND REGULATIONS REGULARLY INSTEAD. AND BY ALL MEANS, IF THINGS GET TO THE POINT THAT IT IS DEFINITELY BEST TO STOP USING HORSES FOR SUCH ACTIVITIES, THEN DO SO IN AN ORDERLY WAY SO AS TO NOT HARM THESE ANIMALS.
I SHOULD POINT OUT THAT CLYDESDALE HORSES WHERE NOT ABANDONED EN MASSE WITH THE INVENTION OF FARM TRACTORS AND EQUIPMENT. NEITHER THE OX. CHANGED CONDITIONS AND LESS ANIMALS ARE PROBABLY THE NORM, NOW.
AH, OUI…. LOGGING AND MAPLE SYRUP FARMING! WE’RE NOW USING PIPES AND SPECIALIZED LOGGING EQUIPMENT IN ADDITION TO SOME HORSES !
