Closest relatives to the human species able to make cross the jump point to a higher degree of consciousness.

All it takes are a few well placed evolutionary events(I have to admit that only 1 major event is required) and enough tinkering to get through that barrier. Anatomy tells the whole story.

Mind you, excuse the pun… the physical brains are nowhere near the volume of those matching humans, so consciousness WOULD BE DIFFERENT in the now. In time, I see no reasonable limit placed on growth possible if those species where to attain consciousness(reasoning, language, fine motor skills…). Rate of acceleration would be entirely dependent on genetics potential.
