First Nation chiefs earning more than mayors of larger towns and cities: study | National Post.
It’s not ‘HOW’ much money, but where it come from and where it gets used.
The right of First Nations to govern their own finances I think is pretty well understood and clear.
People on reserves will determine one way or the other whatever suits them. If corruption exists, they’ll take it into their own hands to fix it.
On the amount of money issue, the amounts disclosed or not is a reflection of the first time this has come to light. Don’t expect it all smelling like a dozen of roses at Valentine.
If the provinces are still corrupt and can get their own finances and debts of the books centuries after coming into their own, how in the hell do you expect the reserves to get it right from square one given their history of abuse.
Obviously, they’ll need help, starting with disclosure of public taxpayers money owed to them, but in keeping with the fact that’s it’s owed, good management for the good of people on the reserves. That’s the intention to model towards.
