Calgary Herald – Editorial: The power of a name

Partly in agreement.

The ‘OLD’ mindset of yesterday’s public witch hunt naming has flown the coop.

Conservative modesty of then, ruled by the local parish and church moors on conduct usually meant dealing within a prescribe set of rules so as NOT to offend the community at large by transgressions that could be akin to setting a fire run amok.

Now, thankfully… because of the rapid out of the closet gay community push, talking about needed corrections on the basis of discriminatory practices has thrown a ray of light where otherwise back then, mum was the word.

Suffering in silence no longer is the law of the land.

It is up to individuals, family and friends to muster up the courage when needed to prevent repetition ad infinitum if serious harm is not shared for the sake of others. Hard, but good comes with change.

And finally it is correct that victims and judges are the final arbitrators on the decision to publish names. A public record for history keeps everyone on their moral compasses if lapses occurs.
