I definitely agree that smaller is better. The insanity of building MEGA MALLS with extremely high NRGY costs impacts overall consumer prices.
At a time when the efficiencies of e-commerce is starting to mature into a viable doable industry, big square footage footprints is akin to waiting that an asteriod hits land with E.L.E. job losses, tax losses, industry shape shifting measures of businesses moving elsewhere to survive.
Slow transitional adjustment periods are a sign that BIG Business is starting to realize that the writing is on the BRICK WALL !

Smaller Targeted Niche to Local Community needs stores are the wave of the future. The days of being EVERYTHING to EVERYONE, be that local or just in passing don’t justify impacts of empty skeletons down the road waiting for some other passing fad to repeat a boom to dust cycle.
