N.S.A. Director Firmly Defends Surveillance Efforts – NYTimes.com.

…”But General Alexander insisted that the chief problem was a public misunderstanding about what information the agency collects — and what it does not — not the programs themselves.”…

Okay let’s for argument’s sake take you Sir on your word. Fair enough. Your mandate is national security. Got that – all good for now.

But, here’s the rub – do other agencies in the United States or other countries have access to all of the data collected regardless of whether or not you are using all of it yourselves at the NSA ???

And if yes, then I’m positive beyond the shadow of a doubt that their mandates under other government programs – whatever they maybe, don’t line up with discarding all of the data or using only portions thereof. In fact, that’s the whole rub here. Exactly who is getting what in parts, pieces or whole databases of data ???

Let’s cough up all the stakeholders getting their hands on this data stuff and have a real discussion.

Then let us WE THE PEOPLE DECIDE !

FAIR ENOUGH, THEN YOU’LL BE OFF THE HOOK IF YOU ARE DOING EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAY YOU’RE DOING !

AFTER ALL, WE THE PEOPLE HAVE A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS BECAUSE WE DEARLY VALUE SECURITY OF THE PERSON, WHICH IN YOUR LINE OF BUSINESS PEOPLE WOULD HARDLY DISAGREE THAT YOU DON’T HAVE THEIR BEST INTERESTS AT HEART !

What I believe the real true issue lies in the areas of personal privacy. That’s where the line becomes a shade of grey and up for discussion in terms of acceptable behavior and pillow talk within the confines of one’s home.

But yes, I’m all for catching ‘bad guys’ if something’s not right – and that’s your baby and domain > hands down !

BTW – Let’s just not blame computers for going astray doing what it shouldn’t be doing because of bugs. If you’re in the security business, then a large part of man hours are spent making sure that things are doing what they should be doing. If you can’t catch bugs, you’re in the wrong line of business and may I suggest further education – politely !
