Q.
Should the crime of injuring or killing police dogs be treated as more than animal cruelty ?
A.
That domain exists and extends to all dogs, not just one category. That a police dog is ill treated, injured or killed is a real risk of the work they do.
The responsibility and care falls on the Master unfortunately, not unlike that of caring for children in a family. In my opinion, the decision to let the dog do it’s work falls squarely on the decision makers capacity to assess risks in the moment – that’s a bitch !!!
What can I say, but pull back the dog from imminent danger where judgement of experience dictates for the dog’s sake !
You can always catch the ‘bad’ guys another way or time without adding more risk of death to animals or humans (good or bad).
We know better in car pursuits, robberies, homicides and hostage situations.
Ditto for DOGS !!!
