You are right, it is not France responsibility to deal with the misery of the whole world.
That falls to me.
However, make accomodations anyways in this case. Enlist help if need be.
France was helped in the past in many ways, including as I understand your own family in moving seeking a better life.
I don’t pretend to understand all the issues here, but they are humanitarian and valid in my opinion.
People seek better, not worst lives.
Help seems reasonable and indicative of France’s role in the world.
