Well I hate to put a comparison to Detroit, but seems to me that leading up to it’s present situation, there were many alarms set off way before it hit a brick wall.

Yes, the automotive sector’s restructuring play a significant role.  But it doesn’t take much to start dominoes falling down.

Chicago almost fell apart to chaos in the past.  Get it together or face worst at some point in the future.

Then it was power, money, alcohol and guns.

Now it’s just about Everything under the sun in this new age.

Wait and perish.
