Food for thought: What is local anyway?.
Good Question FINALLY someone is asking the right question using critical thinking !
Local means whatever is in weather proximity to your specific root or home as X marks the spot.
In technical terms that translates to whatever ‘HEAT’ patterns of temperature differentials between where you live and where a product comes from given AVERAGE TEMPERATURES over the course of time. Time is arbitrary, but more data is better but not necessarily accurate given global warming. It’ll have to be based on personal observations and even community standards.
Shortcut version of this answer is as follows –
Where ‘HEAT’ NRGY potential exceeds the usual parameters from place to place and where it affects the rate of growth of ALL BIOLOGICAL LIFE using existing datasets of local temperatures(not necessarily the closest observation point) over time and on a reasonable ‘HORIZONTAL’ point to point elevation above average sea level. Tree line would be the upper limit as an extreme example. Sea level the other.
Prime example – Dinosaur Age with excess ‘HEAT’ with extreme growth patterns of plants and dinosaurs.
Ditto for local organic with the term ‘organic’ close to but not a universally accepted standard. I would argue that the term ‘organic’ should also include local in it’s definition.
Nothing is written in stone. The final decision always rests with each individual as they have all the details of context of their own situations and conditions.
Bravo for asking the right question !
Punitive financial fines are a good basis of ignorance of scientific understanding of the laws of nature and totally wrong.
Spices for instance cannot be grown in all climates and need to be imported from exotic places. Yet they have inherent values if their NRGY sets are well understood.
Ditto for herbs and herbal medicines.
