Former McGuinty chief of staff Chris Morley defends email deletion
Employers holds it’s employees, contractors and suppliers responsible for the proper use of the NETWORK and all activities related to it especially on the NET, accountable in conduct.
We the people – citizens of governments everywhere especially expect the same with respect to emails, electronic documents and data including any physical paperwork as part and parcel of it’s moral/ethical conduct with respect to what is expected as an explanation of public and business decisions taken on their behalf.
It has contextual meaning in the present to substantiate and uphold it’s legal decisions and of historical value in understanding the ‘WHY’ such decisions where taken at any particular POINT(aka DOT) in TIME. Decisions by their very nature become Baseline References to measure change and the need for it in the future where conditions require it.
If LAWS need to be changed, then the deletion of any electronic data in whatever format should become a criminal act !
WHY – simply because in saying something verbal even if you can take it back still sticks around in someone’s head long after a sincere apology is offered. Once said, taking something back is extremely difficult to rebuild trust and honor.
So CONSCIOUS CHOICE of spoken and written words carefully is the moral of this story as it becomes the personified you in IMAGE broadcast far and wide now – NET result !
