U.S. snooping scandal prompts warning to Canadian journalists: protect sources better
…”About a week ago, The New Yorker unveiled Strongbox — a secure way for people to leak confidential information to them.
Files sent through Strongbox are encrypted and only two reporters from the magazine have access to the files leaked.
The system was intentionally designed so that, even in the event of a court order, it would be almost impossible to track down a leak.”…
Here is an opportunity for the TECH COMMUNITY to step up to the plate if I ever saw one hitting dead smack face first.
Develop HI TECH SERVERS dedicated to multiple encryption techniques using all and then some to give companies, NEWS organizations and Law Firms, etc… the opportunity to commit to national security measures while respecting laws and if so ordered by courts after multiple legal motions to disclose IF ONLY AND ONLY IF a source must be disclosed.
ISP’s, Google, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Yahoo, etc should not relent to SOCIAL ENGINEERING BULLYING at the slightest hint of push and shove harassment. That goes for Telecommunications Companies also.
Flex those brain muscles for a change !
Otherwise the source is protected under constitutional rights.
Make it so ! Lots of work here ahead of you. Remember – moral/ethical principles are that these new STRONGBOXES are not to be used to circumvent and cause terrorist acts. Law enforcement agencies have the duty to engage themselves for the sake of peace, but not SOCIAL ENGINEERING outcomes.
