Do no harm: Who should bear the costs of retired NFL players’ medical bills?
The NFL & CFL are both violent and physically demanding sports – that there is no doubt about it. If a player takes on insurance in ANY form, then insurance companies who take on the risk should indemnify ALL PLAYERS regardless of their status and claims.
Players while agreeing to participate in an aggressive sport and with good faith take on insurance and are covered once a signature on an insurance contract barely has dried without smearing, should be taken at face value if no fraud is intended on the part of the signing party.
And truthfully, the NFL & CFL both bear responsibility if requirements are that insurance is an unspoken agreed upon convention to being selected for a team.
What one has to remember about football is that a large portion and majority are from low income, low employment, low options and low potential brackets with little or no hope in being put into situations where they are driven to points and dots of extreme behaviour as a condition of continued participation.
BTW this is no different than any UFC matches and it’s consequences.
