I’m realizing in all these common stories of bullying that we hype and make frontpage news headlines about the victims – and rightly so because they’ve fallen into the cracks of society for way too long.

However, we’ve lost focus on the bullies that do these things and that’s just as important if we are to come to terms on this issue. Why, because both sides have a large impact on attempted suicides of kids at a young age. From abused victim to the bully with a record that affects his/her life forever – both are respectively affected.

It’s not to punish them, but we have no context to understand what the critical elements were, are in forming young kids to become bullies. The data and information is missing or hidden on purpose – maybe to prevent secondary abuse to the bullies themselves while they are going through the justice system. I’m not sure, but that also has to change if we have any hope of turning around bullying.

It’s a bully, bullied system. Both need to be ‘OUTED’ so we can have a public discussion and solution to this vast and complex problem that has been going on too long.

Hopefully from it, we’ll be able to extend and use the results in other ways, such as domestic violence, workplace harrassment, sexual abuse, etc….

It’s time to look at both sides of the equation. Just one isn’t enough to solve this.
