Cooking the prostate gland

…”Today HIFU accomplishes the same thing, but uses complex computer-assisted equipment. Patients are given a spinal or general anesthesia. A rectal probe is then inserted which allows the doctor to outline the prostate gland. But the same probe also enables the surgeon to deliver intense thermal heat, up to 85degrees celsius (185 degrees fahrenheit), to destroy the gland and its malignancy. In effect, HIFU cooks malignant cells to death.”…
The only caution here I would add is that as with every other physical system that generates heat as a by-product, but certainly in these types of specific cases, is that they require a “Heat Sink.
The “Heat Sink” in proximity helps to dissipate excess heat immediately away from other surrounding vulnerable healthy areas.
Letting the process all on it’s own for the body to deal with the dissipation of the generated ‘Heat’ creates a very high probability of not only causing unwanted damage elsewhere, but also helps to spread diseases.
The body will attempt to spread out the heat and in doing so increases chances of ‘cancer’ spreading out. Metastasize.
The ‘Heat Sink’ needs to be adjusted obviously in terms of time left to do it’s job and specialists are the best ones to know how long that is.
It’s not any different than turning of a vehicle and still being able to feel the heat being given off even though the engine is turned off.
Thermal heat in the body is no different and the length of time required depends entirely on the subject’s health and condition in being able to efficiently dissipate that heat in a short amount of time.
The more sluggish the body is, the longer the requirement to have that ‘heat sink’ in place.
Lastly, as with any other types of surgery, the same applies. When healing, heat is generated as processes kick into gear to re-generate living tissue. While necessary for the healing process, too much heat is just as liable to do the opposite in terms of the spreading out it out strategy that the body will use to manage risk.
Obviously everyone in the medical community understands full well this principle risk with fevers, especially with infants and children who have not developed mechanisms to deal with it efficiently given their relatively young bodies.
