Why “Survival of the Fittest” Is Wrong

…”Among humans, not having children is often a culturally motivated choice, rather than a biological limitation (though both are often at play). People choose not to have children in order to pursue a career, or to raise only a small number of children. Others forego having children for so long that, when they finally decide to conceive, they encounter complications during childbirth. Despite a prolonged maturation period, these individuals are surviving to maturity without a problem. Evolved social mechanisms have played a large part in making that survival possible. But those same mechanisms can also lead to humans not reproducing, in which case their biological fitness would be considered to be very low.

Ultimately, “survival of the fittest” is necessary, but not always sufficient, for the survival of the species.”

You’ll have to excuse my interruption this argument, however despite my intense personal dislike for Charles Darwin’s use of the expression “Survial of the Fittest” I believe at this point in time is correct. Certainly in all of my own experiences and observations, I have yet to encounter an alternative reference that would suggest otherwise.

Let me just say this about people who choose to delay or not have children. Yes some of it is within one’s mind referencing past experiences to possible future outcomes. Measurement between both and decision to wait or not have children.

However let me digress here a bit. Within my own personal experiences, my primordial goal was spiritual in nature and not so much goal oriented towards having children. I was aware that both a spiritual path and having a family had a big impact both ways and it was an either / or to go one way or the other. Since I place extreme high value on all things spiritual and reaching those goals, the first part of that journey was complicated by the fact that Macrobiotic Food “corrected” my internal Biological Compass to match my internal Biological Clock to have children. I would have gone fully the first route had I had the Full Choice. However the Biological Ticking Time Bomb to have children was so overwhelming that no matter how hard I tried, I was unable to resist that siren call. In fact the more Macrobiotic I became the more obsessive the compulsion and need to have kids of my own. By referencing my own childhood experiences and stable family references, that built in clock could not be avoided even if I tried.

Unsuccessful and resigned to my ‘fate’ I met a soul mate and within that context decided to put away that notion of having kids ever since she was older and unable to have kids. Eventually circumstances parted us and I meet my ex-wife who was the ideal image of the women that I would have wanted to have kids with. I made damn sure that that was going to happen, no ifs ands or buts.

While the marriage didn’t work out, I have 2 of the most incredible kids a father could ask and the perfect one that I imagined exactly in my Mind’s Eye from childhood experiences. I would have had more kids, but now I can Consciously make that choice without the overriding pressure of that Biological Ticking Time Bomb. I married late in Life and much older than I would have like to have been for my kids. But that is the way it is. Part of the Dance of Life & NRGY.

So with all that said, I believe Charles is still right, because the current Dance of Life & NRGY in modern society surrounding rerproduction is skewed because of what is physically consumed via food, drinks, plastics, chemicals, environmental toxins. If you remove the majority of those influences, the mechanism of survival of the fittest kicks in with people wanting a lot more kids. Not just one or two for a greater part of the world’s population than it currently is. However nature and Life are trying to find ways to adapt to skewed environmental conditions so what we have right now in my opinion is not representative of something as strong as the will to survive and survival of the fittest. Those are Sexuall built in mechanisms into our DNA and right now the most transparent evidence of that is the state of the union around Porn.

As for apes, chips and all such things, they are as vulnerable as humans to environmental pollution. Fish species are the best evidence of disruptors in the environment.

That’s my mid-term exam decision. I’m still hard at it trying to decipher and decode survival of the fittest. I don’t like that expression at all when it comes to humans. But by gosh, it still fits. Survival I guess because we have plenty of easily available food. My best guess and I’m sticking with it for now.
