Cut with care on defence

I agree.  Why ?  Because without a strong military identity we risk returning to the old days of feudal wars started by power grabs over small bickering details.

Let me clarify that statement a bit.  We’ve grown up as a nation and certainly for sure globally.  Dark Ages are past.  Cold War dead as door nails.  Russia today has transformed itself and is trying to find itself and the exact meaning it of it’s new raison d’etre.  Still if it’s military were to be dismantled completely piece by piece, it would find itself vulnerable to be manipulated and taken advantage of.

Historically that has always been the case with every vulnerable person, town, city, province, state or nation.  Today we call it amalgation, taking by legal force what truly belongs to surrounding areas – all without guns and weapons.  The legal force of law by decree.  But imagine if they could fight back with legal tools?

With that said, a strong military does not mean we’re on a war path to attack vulnerable countries.  What it means is ‘WE STAND ON GUARD’.  We instill within our own Canadian minds a sense of knowing we have strong and integral capabilites to cope with surprises around the corner.  What’s important about that???  Well unless you’re able to read tea leaves and are psychic, you just don’t know.

From my perspective, I don’t expect any war anytime soon.  I think we’ve grown up enough to realize the stupidity of destroying all our recent few hundred years of astonishing progess as a species.

It’s more about staying current with newer technologies, creating jobs, providing peace of mind in case of emergencies and last but not least provide help when requested and being able to do so with dignity and honor knowing we have the right tools to do the work.  How would you like going to the war front with a sling shot???  Count me out if that’s the case.

What we need to remember publicly and first and foremost is not to abuse vulnerable people and states when we have all the fancy bells and whistles and gizmos that takes us off the front and puts us in front of a video monitor away from the horror of wagging wars.  That needs stamping in the public’s mind so as to not repeat and go anywhere near holocausts without conscience.

We have choices and the most meaningful ones begins by having the courage to do the right thing when all is said and done.  Our kids and those of tomorrow know nothing of ways.  I have very little recollection of them and those are through my paternal grandfather who was apparently a tailor during the Second World War.

Things will always change and the military isn’t alone.  It’s time for renewal with things we can live with and things we can’t.

Let the changes happen through debate, differences and consensus.  Not all options are right given all the Wish Lists we have as a nation.  Canada is young and still growing up.  Let it start with making sure that all our economic Rubber Ducks are lined up in a row, but not so much that they become easy targets for assault in a globally connected world.

That’s the new front.  It’s not a war, but everyone and everything is searching for identities with purpose.  Let’s get our numbers straight by exercising Conscious Choice and Dancing with the Stars.

That’ll make all the differences in the World for the whole World, not just Canadians.

Hopefully it will for my 2 kids.  I’m counting on it !
