Gates: Microsoft made mistakes in early mobile strategy
From Unix and terminals to Windows Stand Alone boxes back to the network and NET should have been indicative of change.
But the biggest mis-step and cue in my humble personal opinion should have been CITRIX and then VMWare.
That in itself should have said it all.
Yes I understand at the time ROI on Office was the primary motivator.
But once Linux entered the picture and everyone looking for alternatives, that should have been the Ki to switch gears.
Let’s not go there with what I think happened with IE. Market share does not mean forever. Nortel learnt that at everyone’s expense.
Last but not least – market penetration at this point will can only be achieved this late in the game by price points. Consumers have plenty of choices with more on the way.
