For better or worst – better I hope all provinces and states enabling tougher drinking laws and responsible drivers also need to step up to the plate with public transit.

As it stands now the early closures and shutdowns are now antiquated and of the ’50’s mentality when everyone anywhere had a license to drive drunk and it was okay.  Public transit was in it’s infancy and pipe dreams of jet driven flying cars manned by robots in comic books were the norm.

Other than more taxis, provide longer late night public transportation as not only a bridge gap measure but also part of the ‘plan’ to get people to act responsibly.  It’s a social problem in a vast scale needing a multi-faceted approach.

Everyone knows it’s the right thing to do to prevent more senseless deaths and orphaned kids.

Let’s not have this discussion down the road a la Newton style.  That will be unconscionable and morally inexcusable.  If it can be done today with little effort and costs, then tomorrow will take care if itself.

Time for change on multiple fronts – 2013 is here and the clock is ticking.
