At a minimum there should be a 20 cent per item deposit for all recyclable items for small items going up from there.
It’ll help to insure a higher complacence rate on recycling getting cities out of the business of having to cost out and pass on costs to taxpayers. Let retailers do the work and not have recyclying depots as in the Alberta model which totally sucks big time. If the retailers enjoy the spin off profits from alcohol sales, then they should bear some of the burden of that profit.
A high deposit rate for items will also help homeless scavenging while helping to keep cities clean and people less dependent on expensive social programs.
