Financial Post online – Canada’s job market mismatch puts economy at risk: CIBC

Assuming that we get through the let’s say next short term little while intact and can muster ahead despite all the bad news economy here or there here’s the lowdown on the long-term employment outlook.

There’s a 9 year gap between now and 2021 before the next ‘BIG’ thing takes off in a major way.

The next PIVOTAL Big thing is so different than the past that the Industries that shape themselves around it will be caught off guard for workers in such a huge way that it’ll actually slow it down. Immigration will be the only way to solve the need, alas training in this new field will take time and as always industries end up in the same cycles of hit & miss of being able to catch the ‘up’ wave.

What I also expect due to the current young generation’s disaffection for the current status quo is that they’ll simply quit ‘en masse’ looking for the next quick buck and almighty dollar. It’ll be a shark feeding frenzy – there’s no doubt about it. Current industries of all types are gonna be the big losers.

Their treatment and pay scales of current and future employees are substandard. They’re actually doing themselves in and will be in a great deal of pain when the time comes. Those industries include the Skilled Trades, Construction, Oil & GAS, manufacturing and health care. Simply put, workers won’t be putting up with the bullshit and voting with their feet – right out the door. You ain’t seen nothing yet. No matter how much these industries will be willing to pay, it’ll simply be too late.

This new industry will be so revolutionary that it’ll be the next ‘GOLD RUSH’…

And I’m not saying cause I’m getting ready to catch it now and ride it like a Space Cowboy.

OMGOD I LOVE NRGY – did I say that loud enough. 🙂

Hasta la Vista – old industries cause you are toast and no amounts of certification is gonna help you.

Too late, too bad for those who don’t know how to treat people humanely. That’s the real sad part of not knowing how to do business. It’s all about people – stupid. Employees and customers.

It ain’t personal – business is business, and the old mentality of doing things like the industrial age is coming to an end.

For those who really have what it takes to try and ride out the changes – better rethink your strategies pronto – 9 years is just around the corner and this gravy train ain’t stopping for no one. You simply have to improve your track record and do a better job with the whole work/personal Quality of Life issues. As it stands – it just doesn’t cut it.

In the meantime I’m taking care of a few loose ends and gonna enjoy watching the show. The bulk of my time in the next decade will be in education – why waste my time and NRGY chasing the wrong false god and golden goose?

Of course it would help everyone if I disclosed what this industry is – but that’s the price for thinking you could get away with murder and planning it for so long. This is the cost. Live and Learn. Tough luck.

Ciao
