BBC online – Is zero an even number?

I’ll wade into this debate with my own opinion which is tentative because I haven’t really paid attention and put NRGY into the question.

So for now I’ll respectly disagree and say the VALUE OF Ø (ZERO) is not a number and definitely not even.

I could just as well put up equivalent arguments in favor of it being ‘ODD’ in nature. Being placed in the middle between 2 other odd numbers -1 and 1.

Personally I consider it to be neutral. Depending on it’s shape shifting nature, it really represents the starting point of which direction things will turn and go.

So it’s really just a relative value to indicate a Relative Central Starting Point between something real or something missing(virtual). It contains both possibilities yet one must measure against it to determine an outcome.

Hence the time it takes to decide in people what value to assign it. I stumbled on this principle and used it quite effectively while raising my kids. Here’s how.

Most parents when they are faced with young children who put up a fuss or are in trouble will often turn to giving them ‘TIME OUTS’ now that physical punishment is by and large socially unacceptable. Time Outs are like timers – counting in a positive direction from Zero to let’s say 10. Well if kids know how to count, logically in their minds, they know that more numbers come after 10 or whatever other number you end up using as your deadline.

So they want to test the system of what happens when let’s say you hit the number 11, then 12 and so on and still no consequences. Parents are helping them understand that consequences can be delayed.

I turned it around and instead of a timer going up, I used the technique that involved ZERO. Counting down from 3 to 2 to 1 and pausing.

Letting kids try to figure out what happens as consequences at ZERO is an interesting exercise. They trying to figure out what the value ZERO is while trying to figure out what is going to happen next. YIN/YANG.

I got instant results coupled with always making sure that I was consistent with my messages and verbal instructions to my kids in asking things of them. Respect, consistency and the number ZERO goes a long way. I’m sure there are other ways to use ZERO creatively around kids.

While the debate continues on the subject, as for the gas stations, people in line, police and attendants – license plates ending in zero get the added bonus of being able to go more each day. Think of it as winning the lottery in times of trouble. Hey, they’ll probably sell the gas at a profit and make some money – I know, but someone willing to pay for it will avoid the line up. Certainly it doesn’t mean abusing the system, but if you’re willing to wait for hours on end more than twice a day with odd or even numbers, you can still sell the surplus gas at a profit.

Same diff here – think it through – at least in the misery so hope and sanity. Other than that, do as the Mayor did – assign an arbitrary quality to the digit ZERO and lump it with even numbers for now. Message has to remain consistent and get it out there before madness and mayhem become a formidable duo.
