One of the best ways if not already contemplated is to Assign a Unique ID for each new M.A.C. device and to immediately discard the M.A.C. identifier. That way privacy is maintained and the temptation of an internal/external 3rd party wanting to have access and the means to mine the data for information becomes a non-issue.
Since everything is in real time no hank panky is allowed with any other internal/external networks that others would be able to sniff and snoop for data.
