New York Times online – Protecting Tunnels Against Disaster

Great idea that needs a whole lot more work on the concept.

Problem is there’s tons of entry points into tunnels to plug.

Add to boot, the what-if scenario of people trapped behind these plugs and unable to get out in time before being inflated – lawsuits waiting to happen, or incredible insurance claims because of no exit plans.

Here’s a good one for you – how many times a year do you want to inflate/deflate these things given increased climate change models? What is the break even point if there is one to consider. What are the cost models of letting everything go to hell and fixing versus doing something about it. Guess that doesn’t need answering, but just asking… afterall it’s about money – right? The bottom line is gonna cost someone somehow.

What to do, what to do – obviously more thinking required, but doable and viable. More heads required please, but at least it’s happening.

If you’re asking the right questions right at the get go, then you’ll eliminate chasing the wrong ghosts !
