Canada’s foreign worker program to be reviewed after hiring of Chinese coal miners in B.C.
The review is a good step in the right direction. If companies can’t find the right combination of Canadian workers in all fields to supply it’s labour needs, then have the companies setup professional industrial training centers in conjunction with colleges, universities to fill those needs.
No Canadians should be left behind when all types of industries are clamouring for labour with the looming upcoming shortage of workers due to the retirement of a large proportion of baby boomers no longer available for work.
There is just not enough young people wanting to go into hard core Oil, Gas, Mining industries because they are skipped over in favour of cheap, cheap, cheap foreign labours, not professionals. And imigrants are then exploited, abused because they are not up to speed on how things function within their sectors and the communities they live in.
It’s time for Unions to speak louder and make sure that the people in power know that Canadians want good solid paying long term jobs and that they’re willing to do it instead of just foreign workers.
And just in case someone things I’m in favour of discrimination on the subject of foreigners in Canada – wrong, way wrong.
I married a Korean women and value the hard work of the people of South Korea that I saw during my 2 month tour of that country.
Foreigners work hard, the trick is not to exploit them and turn them into slaves for our profit. There’s a way to incorporate foreign workers into our country, and people will have to put their heads together to figure it out, so that Canadians are not disadvantaged first.
