It’s a Mel Gibson attitude as in Lethal Weapon. In the good old days – slower pace of the Dance of Life, yes Police officers use to deal with these issues on their own and police departments use to give officers the time and leeway to search and deal with this serious issue thru their own conscience. More than likely, although I don’t have stats to know for sure, most officers pulled through, because of a more caring time between family, community and the fraternity of other police officers goodwill and intentions.
Now with the super connected highway of a globally connected world of authority and police forces, denial is the best means of dealing with a huge topic of instability due to enormous pressures faced in Life & Death circumstances at work and the PTSS(post traumatic stress syndrome) as it’s commonly called in the personal lives of officers.
I can attest to it having seen it first hand thru a past RCMP’s conduct. Scary stuff to see it happening in real life ! Add to it the incident in Ottawa where a former RCMP member fatally killed an Ottawa Police officer.
There’s no doubt that Police Officers just as discharged war veterans are faced with incredible pressures in dealing with the day to day ugliness of life. They See, Breath, Smell, Taste it all. It’s effects are cumulative on the spirit and slowly but surely I am positive it has the effect of making them feel like they are in a losing battle with no end in sight. As hard as they try, they’re still human and subject to the same rules that face us all – mortality, choice and learning to Master their own Destinies in the Dance of Life & NRGY.
Police Unions are going to have to speak up if they are to deal with this issue on their own terms. Otherwise as usual Police Officers are going to be between a rock & a hard place being told to suck it up, be good Dogs and grin and bear it. Ultimately they’ll continue to pay dearly for us all that depend on them. To uphold law and order – no one else is willing to endure living thru what it takes.
Truthfully, honestly and most of all sadly I know that I don’t have what it takes to deal with how bad it gets – day in day out in real life no matter how hard I try to get myself to face it forcefully. It’s not pretty a good portion of the time – and that’s living in Canada – I’ll bet it’s much much worst elsewhere.
Certainly and honestly, but mostly sadly I’ll have to admit that I don’t have the right stuff to see how ugly it can gets no matter how hard I try to get myself to face it.
