No disrespect of others opinions on the issue of speed, but it’s always the first causality in fatalities. Whether pedestrians or cyclists, the ultimate law is that they are never the winners in accidents. No matter what speed is posted – Who would have thought something so obvious still seems to get first reaction to issues facing all motorists and people alike who have to share roads.
My first reaction – block off traffic completely and make it so inconvenient to motorists to use Bronson that they’ll be forced to consider alternatives all on their own without outside interference. Like gangs, drug dealers and prostitutes, they’ll move the problem to other areas of the city and still nothing will be solved. It’ll just be different – nothing gained, nothing lost – perfect politician’s solution – no lose of face.
Hence, speed enforcement doesn’t solve the problem. Tackling it head on and dealing with hard solutions in everyone’s interests – motorists, cyclists and pedestrians especially within some family neighborhoods really makes politicians shine among the rest.
Ottawa really truly needs mega re-think of how it deals with road infrastructure – it’s a mess in my opinion having lived in this city for so long. It’ll only get worst and more people will continue to pay dearly for it.
The life-blood of any city is the basic transportation infrastructure provided to it’s citizens to promote commerce and sustain life at it’s most basic functions. When that crumbles, cities become have-nots, wanna-bes and passé. Left behind like dinosaurs of ages past. Time to wake up if Ottawa has any hope at all of getting with it in a global fast paced world. I for one have voted with my feet and heart – Calgary ! I’m no fool to believe they are without problems, but seems to me that the Mayor has his passion where his heart is concerned – connected.
