Yesterday, I caught a glimpse online of talk of a private interest in building a high speed rail between Edmonton and Calgary.

If that’s the case, then go for it. Seems to me that the speed at which business travels is much faster than average here in Alberta because it’s main commodity is based on Oil & Energy interests.

So if private consortiums, people, industry are willing to dream, fund and build it, then it makes sense. To a very large degree this will be for business, not tourists.

Considering population projections, traffic will only increase and other solutions will have to become realities. If there’s one thing paramount in making sure that economies stay healthy and working roughly as intended, it’s got to be building great transportation infrastructures and maintaining them. That in and by itself out does anything else on the table. If people and goods move, then it’s a guaranteed success. Put up roadblocks and then welcome to hell. Simple no brainer. No one needs to go to classes to figure that out. Whether it’s a horse, buggy, wagon or car truck – point A to point B doesn’t happen by walking on thin air. At least not just yet, we’ll have to wait until we catch up to the Star Trek models.

One last word – In my humble opinion considering the importance of the Oil Sands, maybe getting workers to and from there fast maybe worth a good look and consideration. Just saying. Think it through, crunch the numbers and somehow make the magic happen if it makes sense. High Speed should be just that. Little in the way of in between stops between Edmonton & Calgary. Only where warranted if a business case argument justifies it. Otherwise as they say – time is money.
