Well I got news for Alberta if this is the case. While I sympathize with homeowners who get screwed left right and center by crooked contractors and fly by night drugged up pieces of shit that don’t complete their work only to steal money from people, I believe any laws that obliges people to put up with BS laws in terms of doing business legitimately and honestly, is subject to litigation. While it may have been the ongoing case for quite a while, if the authorities are on top and make sure that everything is running as smoothly as possible over time, then nothing can prevent honest trades from conducting business as usual without all the BS.
If that is the case, then welcome to my world, because this is going to change. A Red Seal certificate will make no difference. If someone is crooked, it won’t matter if a hammer is in their hands or a gun. They’ll still be able to get away with murder with Certification Authorities giving their blessings to boot.
Common sense prevails, not contracts in this case. Why!!! Because delays always crop up in the construction industry. It’s a fact of LIFE. Not enough people, no experienced people, drugged up people, crooks, yadda yadda yadda, choose your flavor of the day excuse for not being on time.
And if someone in Alberta or any other province can come up with any construction trades that has consistently over the last 100 years delivered on time, on budge and as per original contract stipulations, then I want to meet them and learn their secrets.
No one, not even governments can tell you how to run your business. So stay the fuck out of it and catch crooks and put them back where they belong long before they imperil the sanity of homeowners.
Innocent honest hardworking people don’t need more interference, laws and BS. What they need is help to keep on doing their work well.
If this isn’t clear enough, then you’ll find out the hard way. Trust me, that’s why I’m here. Pucker up people, cause I’m on a mission to make money and this Universe isn’t big enough for 2 sets of different rules. Mine wins, Tops down everytime. Say cheese cause everyone’s in my domain and like it or not, that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Whether in Alberta, BC or Ontario, it’s time to wake up and smell the roses and come up with better scenarios and changes to make people’s lives easier. Enough is enough.
Quick update on this as a last word.
Everything about this contractor should be posted publicly online for scrutiny and criticism. Let the media and people look at what has been agreed to and done/not done. Let the contractor point out what has happened online. The truth will come out eventually and the contractor will be in legal trouble if he has defrauded people intentionally. The NET will be the great equalizer just as a teacher who has recently been found not guilty but her life shattered – so too must this and other contractors be served justice either way. It will act as deterrents for others to not try and take advantage of vulnerable and trusting people. Whether it’s the construction industry or any other type of commerce – fraud is fraud and subject to the law of the land. Seems to me however that the bigger you are the better chances you have of getting away with it. Take a good look at Wall Street and the financial sectors. Billions gone – poof !
