Ah finally the magic word I’ve been waiting to read about in the news.

Benchmarks – Baselines – Standards – Units of Measure

Whether we like it or not, ALL of these words pertain to one important thing. The UNIVERSAL ability of humans to make critical distinctions in observations of phenomena over time so that they can be quantified and measured in some meaningful way and some average can be attributed to it.

In other words, Benchmarks in this case takes time and patience to come up with some sort of acceptable definition of something that is real and tangible and affects human quality of life.

In a nutshell the next best thing is to rely on your natural sense of intuition and common sense in the absence of inaction and inability of a higher order to impart a sense of direction upon human affairs.

Careful use of critical judgments is your best and effective guide through a corn field maze when there is nothing else to go on. And time is your best ally as your tape measure of experience.
