I respectfully disagree with the fact that the Parti Quebecois does not portrait being racist. In fact that stamp of honour belongs to Rene Levesque’s win in 1976, a year that should have been dominated by the Montreal yet turned on it’s ugly head by a very real and sudden drop in our standards of living in Canada.

And yes, my name’s Robert Lanari, born and partially raised in Montreal until 1972. French/Italian Canadian. Je parle Francais. Unfortunately, fortunately always in English Catholic School. My own 2 young kids now, in French Catholic schools in Ottawa.

My context for debate.

Pierre Trudeau vs Rene Levesque

Assertion, confidence, opinionated vs emotional, nervous chain smoking addict. No disrespect for Mr. Levesque – no doubt he was passionate about his beliefs. Yet his public image suffered immensely. It didn’t help with everything Anglophone and English on signs to be viewed as evil and torn up and threatened with public lashings and punishment under laws by the Parti Quebecois.

I’m referring to the Dunkin’ Donuts in this case who had all their American English trademarks and language signaged torn and shredded and thrown into garbage bins. In Montreal. And I was in Ottawa at the time and too young to comprehend all the significance of it all. Yet the images remain to this day.

Now things have changed. But have they. When a crazed gunman – kills innocent workers in the name of Anglophones and the target was a political leader, what does that say. The impression hasn’t gone away.

It’s time for the Parti Quebecois to put it’s money where it’s mouth is and put it’s true stamp and brandfire on public display and live or die by their passions. If whether French or English want respect and stand for something, let them say it loud and clear once and for all. Let’s get this cleared up and know where the ship’s headed. Otherwise Quebec will one day end up with the very short end of nothing and get a boot where it deserves – rightfully or not. After 400 some years of having their ass whipped, get over it and turn a new leaf – one way or the other.

If no one can make up their minds, I’m certainly willing and able to reshape the political landscape one person and thing at a time when I’m ready. Try me on for size when the time comes.

Dream it, think it, write it, post it aned live it or get out of my way. Cause I’m French Canadian and I’ve had enough of the B.S. all these years.
