Globe and Mail online – Quebec shooting was an attack on all of Canada

Dear Globe and Mail editor

In principle I agree with the opinion put forward by the article – it is an unwarranted attack on English Canada and an unjustified and heinous crime against persons just doing their jobs to earn a living. Adding more than insult to death in this case, is the child of a dead man, innocent and without having had so much as a say in the matter at this young age or later when she’s grown up.

What I would like to add however, is that if this man had succeeded in reaching his goal(s), a political leader would be dead now. And maybe with who knows how many other countless unfortunate persons – all collateral damage(not intended targets, but nevertheless dead). What maybe hasn’t been discussed yet to my knowledge is the what if scenario – what if he had succeeded in reaching his target and there had been a political assassination of Pauline Marois? In my opinion it would have reverberated internationally. Not only on the global stage, but within Canada too. And Anglophones would have probably paid a heavy price for this stupid senseless act of violence. It’s easy to say it didn’t happen. Yet the what if came close like hell to happening. And this is Canada with guns being not so readily available as a Constitutional Right. We can all thank our lucky stars, it wasn’t worst. Little consolation for the daughter without a father, sadly. Innocence lost and the impact it will have on her life forever.
