I mean this is exactly what I am critical of the Ottawa Citizen’s news. For years, I have been astonished reading and seeing this paper’s potential going down the drain.
It is mediocre at best when all it can print is a story about kittens on a 6 hour ride going nowhere fast. Is this all we have to talk about when there are so many more important things to say ? Come on now, it costs money to print the paper stuff and paying a buck for a story about kittens, well not with my cup of coffee. Thanks I’ll pass. Better think about the next coming generation of kids who’ll have absolutely no interest in reading printed much less mediocre news online or through smartphones. I’ll guarantee it won’t happen – hence kiss your keister goodbye.
Change, change, change is a spiral and now more than ever, it’s in the center of that NEWSPAPER BUSINESS spiral. Shape it, otherwise it’ll shape you !
With de-centralization and things all over the map with 3 levels of government in Ottawa, the Ottawa Citizen and Ottawa Sun need strong partnerships to put the pieces of the puzzles together and give it’s readers as complete a picture as possible about issues affecting them. If fear of losing Advertising revenue is utmost on newspaper’s minds, then welcome to the new century – either way it’s lack of being critical and in bringing straightforward news will not be winning you any new converts anytime soon. The attrition rates around subscriptions have most likely been going south for years and accelerating. With increased costs, less subscribers due to other interests and price increases – not looking good from my own personal perspective. Soon enough even columnist and reporters will take their business elsewhere and decide to do their own thing in other ways to earn their livings. That will leave exactly who to write up stories – Mickey & Mini Mouse ? Sorry but Disney has the rights to them !
As a Capital Paper in Canada’s nation, it is without a doubt in a trusted and sacred position to be a pivotal hotspot in bringing in critical coverage of news of importance to all Canadians – now more so than ever far and wide around the globe.
It has recently undergone transformation. Good, change is about time – now move with my comments and become the paper you were meant to be – search and print news worthy of your potential in helping to shape a world lost in direction NORTH EAST WEST SOUTH = MORAL/ETHICAL CONDUCT, RESPONSIBILITIES AND SOCIAL FORUM TO DEBATE ISSUES that potentially affects nearly 7 billion people on the planet.
If Canada is to be a world leader in the way it is shaping itself, then we need strong, clear and precise critical thinking and mouthpieces to convey that message around the world. The Ottawa Citizen and the Ottawa Sun are important pieces of this puzzle. Now help the columnists and people who have the chance to elevate that mark about a Gold Medal. Be the Footprint instead of the footnote in history.
Your choice, but I see a whole lot of other papers as being there despite what’s thrown at them. Being mediocre and a distance runner up doesn’t win you any medals in the Olympics. Be who you were meant to be – for Canada’s and the World’s sakes !
And for God’s sake, redesign your online frontpage – way too busy and lacks clarity and directions – I’ll say it again — > N E W S
