Financial Post online – Clock never stops in CRA disputes

The right of CRA to apply it’s rules makes perfect sense. Otherwise tax laws would become unmanageable and inherently more chaotic than they are. At the very least they are following rules.

Where I think things diverge from there is the difference between standards with other tax entities, in particular – provinces in Canada and countries where Canadians live and/or do business. It would probably be a nightmare for CRA if it isn’t already to try to harmonize itself everywhere around the world. So it is incumbent on Canadians to know tax laws ahead of time instead of being in a position of finding out after the fact and trying to comply with CRA rules.

However, when it comes to Canadian soil, CRA should do it’s utmost from a position of power and authority to consult and harmonize itself for the good of Canadians. Then when rules are fairly evenly distributed and followed, there is no reason under the Sun & Moon for Canadians to cite ignorance and blatantly be disrespectful of them. Afterall, taxes serves the common good of all Canadians in the end.

That’s the original true purpose of taxing people, fairness for all, in good times and in worst !
