As I said in the previous post, I’ll be back to comment on this article after I scrutinize it word for word. It merits comments in my own humble opinion now that I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing Ottawa seedier side of Lowertown and as an experienced father of 2 young kids.
Stay Tuned cause this one is really up my alley.
Update —— Sunday August 12 @ 7:35pm MST
Here goes – First and foremost – don’t have cops showing up next time at my door asking why I’m not working. If I put my kids first in Lowertown OCH 313-380 Murray street and on Mayview Avenue near Caldwell and Merivale then it’s to make sure both of them are shielded and not drawn into gangs even though they were young at the time.
Nothing is more insulting, harassing and being humilated being 50+ yrs of age with no criminal record and having cops coming over because of a ex-wife’s bitch attitude during separation and pending divorce to interrogate me over her false allegations of BS.
The cops all acted professionally. Yet in this day and age, it’s discrimination on every possible level. Age, gender, sexual orientation and spiritual beliefs and religion.
So next time, before something slips out of a police officer’s mouth, keep it in check and do it by the book. Gangs become foot holds for kids when parents aren’t doing their jobs of being there for their kids. They’re at all levels trying to make ends meet so they can do something for their kid’s futures.
That’s how it starts. Absentee parents. Gangs sense the opportunity and pounce. Just like pedophiles, thefts, and every other crime of opportunity.
The hardest jobs police have is knowing the difference between making judgements and passing sentences when all they are called upon is to keep the peace and civility between neighbours, friends and family within communities.
With all the intelligence on the door steps of policing authorities, access to information is not the issue. It’s the discrimination and effectively applying the information appropriately to avoid stepping into someone else game of being blamed for professional misconduct. Criminals like games, that much we know through the media and courts. Yet policing organizations fall into the same traps when they start playing with the same fire and NRGY of those games and get caught with their pants down. Time to rise above the games and train professionals across the board of not living the virtual realities of the criminal mind. If you live it day to day, you become the food you eat and subsequently become the result of it. Even the mind cannot but follow because it is imprisoned in the host body and it’s condition. The spirit my know better, yet it is not strong enough to move temptation out of the way.
So, back to gangs – yes, community centres helped alot with my kids in lowertown. That much I am thankful for the Patro. Ste-Anne helped with the teachers and school secretary. Principals – a Big FAT ZERO. In fact, I would suggest the next time instead of planting decoys whether at Ste-Anne or Laurier Carriere, think it through before going down that road. Those are exactly the type of mentality that suggests everything that is wrong with creating kids that would join gangs in the first place. Putting up posters with values that are not adhered to and followed will only entrench the children in those schools into being disillusioned with the principles they espouse. The police will have more work than they can handle and will be ineffective. All lip service and show, but zero effectiveness in solutions to solve the problem.
Yep, you can bet your asses I’m critical of lip service. Let’s see the action for real – help parents get out of the vicious cycles of poverty and just getting by to help their kids. Then you’ll see a real difference instead of just talk and media circuses.
