While banning the use of masks during demonstrations is a noble idea to maintain law & order and to seek out people who have for all intent & purposes the malicious intent of bringing peaceful demonstrations to a new level of chaos, I am against the idea.

In my opinion, what this proposed law will cause is an escalation of violence against first the Police who are entrusted with orders to keep things peaceful and protesters who will not want to conform and will violently fight back any attempts of arrest for wearing masks as a way to protect themselves from profiling.

Fighting back will only escalate to brinkmanship of the use of levels Police will be required to use to keep the peace and new measures by mobs to circumvent their rights and freedoms to demonstrate in their pursuit of causes they deem important enough to physically demonstrate their lawful dis-accord with political and social causes.

This leads us is that NHL hockey masks, ski masks and whatnot that will become targets of lawful convictions. What about a motorcyclist wearing a helmet on a bike or motorcycle right in the middle of a demonstration? People will start to use masks everywhere in their normal day to day routines to the point that it will be impossible to differentiate between it’s use elsewhere. At what point does escalation by either side stops?

Rioters in mob demonstration incite violence for their own purposes. No one can stop these people from wanting to turn over society upside down if they are hell bent in their purposes. You can only slow them down, but stopping them is next to impossible. Making more laws to hit upon law abiding citizens who wish to peacefully demonstrator will not stop the extremists. In fact, I suspect you will only create more of them with a law banning masks. People will find ways to fight back and more laws are not the answer. Talks and taking baby steps will lead you there much faster, even when making mistakes. It’s the nature of the human soul. Evolve, adapt or die. More human laws cannot stop natural processes when there are bigger laws at work that are much bigger than what’s created on Planet Earth and have minds & spirits of their own.
